A STALWART policing campaigner has quit as chairman of Northamptonshire Neighbourhood Watch in protest over police plans for a £13 million custody suite.Bill Dredge tendered his resignation to Northamptonshire Neighbourhood Watch Association after a disagreement with Chief Constable Peter Maddison over further discussions on the plans for the Criminal Justice Centre, at Brackmills, revealed exclusively in the Chron last month.
Mr Dredge said Mr Maddison should reconsider the plans, which will put a £1 million burden on the forces revenue budget for the next 25 years in loan repayments, at a time when the force was looking at reducing police numbers due to a predicted cash shortfall.
