NP Rank:
#1 Buckeyes (Basketball)
Columbus played host to another #1 ranking over the weekend. That's right, those Ohio State Buckeyes are number one once again. However, it is not football season. So what gives? Well, it just so happens that the Scarlet & Gray can play ball indoors as well. Of course if you watched the National Championship in college basketball last year, then you know who is ready to defend their title. Could OSU play Florida in this year's National Title Game for both basketball, and football? It's looking like it may not be that crazy of a thought. But, we will have to see where the teams are seeded for March Madness in a few weeks.
Led by freshmen Greg Oden and Mike Conley Jr., Ohio State advanced one day after beating Wisconsin in a meeting of Nos. 1 and 2."You hate there had to be a team that lost that game," Buckeyes coach Thad Matta said Monday, referring to his team's 49-48 victory that clinched a second straight Big Ten title. "Fortunately for us we made the bucket at the end and came away on top."
Ohio State (26-3) moved up one spot in the rankings, receiving 62 first-place votes and 1,786 points from the 72-member national media panel. It is the Buckeyes' first time as No. 1 in the AP rankings since the final poll of the 1961-62 season.
With a 49-48 win over the Badgers, the Buckeyes have clinched the outright Big Ten championship. The women's team did likewise with a 72-58 win at Michigan. That's outright Big Ten championships in football and both men's and women's basketball. According to the Ozone, that's the first time in NCAA history that a school's done that. So that's pretty cool.
Statistically, the game was every bit as ugly as the final score indicates (or as you remember from watching it). Have a look at the box score. The Buckeyes shot poorly, hitting 28.6% of their threes and 42.2% of their field goals overall. The Badgers shot even worse, however, shooting just 35.1% overall. Alando Tucker and Kammron Taylor combined to go 9-of-27 from the field. The Badgers outrebounded OSU by nine boards, but when those rebounds lead to that many shots that don't fall, the rebounding margin doesn't matter so much.

To me Ohio is just another state.
Did you know:
"During the early 1950s, the Ohio legislature sponsored a contest for
selecting a state motto. "With God All Things Are Possible"became
Ohio's state motto on October 1, 1959. James Mastronardo, a
twelve-year-old boy recommended this quotation from the Bible.
"In 1997, the American Civil Liberties Union filed a suit against
Ohio and its state motto, claiming that this phrase from the Bible
violated the First Amendment to the United States Constitution, which
guarantees religious freedom and a separation of church and state.
Various federal courts sided with Ohio, allowing the state to retain
the motto. Judges ruled that Ohio's motto does not endorse a specific
God and, thus, was not a violation of the First Amendment. Ohio is one
of five states with the word "God"in their mottos."
