2006 Has Been A Hard Year On The Blues

2006 has been a hard year on a lot of folks (our soldiers, first and foremost). From newspapers, airlines, and auto mfgs offering early retirement packages due to declining revenues across the board, to eroding social safety nets that have been drastically cut to fund tax cuts (during war time). Even music genres as a whole have had it hard, and maybe none harder than the blues.

As a result, near the first week of December I was inspired to make a tribute video to some of those great talents and who had left us, and titled it, "Blues Angels Rising." As I was making my final edit I thought to myself, 'I am only asking for trouble (or at least an incomplete list) by not waiting till the end of the year'; I was right, unfortunately. In a period of less than three weeks since that time--we have lost H-Bomb Ferguson, Atlantic Records founder Ahmet Ertegun, and only a couple days the Lord called former Elmore James sideman and recording artist Homesick James back to his celestial digs.

Some of the names in this video may be unfamiliar to some readers, but if you'll enter in any of their names in one of the major search engines you'll find plenty of good evidence of just what made them special as performers, and as contributors all to this thing called American culture. Godspeed to them all.
