GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Two J.L. Mann High School students have been charged with hacking into the Greenville County School District's main computer database.
School district officials said that Zachary Swearingen and David Rak used an administrator's password to manipulate school computers last December.
At first the students thought they would face only a three-day suspension.
But now the two are charged with a computer crime.
The district said that a misunderstanding with the Greenville Police Department led to the delay in the charges.
Police said that the two students got access to the schools secure network by using a password one of them got as a summer intern working for the school’s information technology department.
