Over 300 supporters marched from the Sacramento Gay and Lesbian Center to the State Capitol.
Featured speaker at the Center was Gretchen Bender. Bender  is Sacramento County’s only gay elected official and the first DYKE ever elected to office in Sacramento County history.

At the state capitol there was a brief program featuring  Jean Adams, field organizer for Equality California and a performance by True Colors Women’s Chorus.

“We see this march as a way of bringing together the many active and diverse groups that make up Sacramento’s women’s community in a unifying and joyous event,” said Bonnie Osborn, a member of the march organizing committee. “As with any event where you get lots of women together, we think the Dyke March     was empowering, a little bit boisterous and a lot of fun.”

The Dyke March was organized by members of Women On Wednesdays, or WOW, a facilitated discussion group that meets weekly at the Sacramento Gay & Lesbian Center, along with representatives from other community organizations.

Thanks for posting this. I was too busy crowdsourcing the Pride parade in London to notice the event taking place here in North America...

(Your headline: it's one of those word-ownership things. I could never get away with calling a woman a, well, one of those dams in Holland)
