A bridge on one of the major
roads in the western part of Tehsil Gujar Khan has
caved in on 26th March, dividing the western part of
the Tehsil in two parts and cutting off transport
service. Almost a month has passed but neither Town
Municipal Administration (TMA) nor District Government
has done anything to repair /reconstruct the collapse
bridge. The residents and commuters are facing
injuries and inconvenience due to the collapse. They
have appealed to the district government to get it
reconstructed on emergency basis and thus restore road link as early as possible.
A small bridge on   Guliana-to-Bhangali link road
near village Dera Muslim has collapsed as the recent
rains softened the foundations of the bridge and the
supportive wall of the bridge has given way, bringing
the bridge down. The collapse has cut off the road
links due to which the residents and travellers of the
areas are facing a lot of convenience.
On Tuesday, a motorcyclist who plunged into the
collapsed bridge, sustained serious head injuries
while his wife also injured. Chaudary Muhammad Gulzar, resident of Mohra Gujran was coming back home along with his wife Munawar Sultana on his motorbike (RLE-8339) and they fell headlong into the collapsed bridge as they were not aware of missing bridge. As a result of the fall, Chaudary Muhammad Gulzar received critical head injuries and became unconscious while his wife’s leg was fractured. They were rushed to Tehsil Headquarter Hospital here. The condition of Chaudary Muhammad Gulzar was so critical that he was hifted to District Headquarters Hospital, Rawalpindi. He had not regained consciousness till the filing of this report.
The commuters and residents of the area have
asked the district government to get the bridge
reconstructed at the earliest as it is a major and
busy road of the area. It links Guliana Road (which
branches off from Grand Trunk Road) to Chakwal Road
connecting almost all the major villages of the area.
