NP Rank:
A Gator Feast in the Desert
The DugOut is the first to admit that the final score on Monday night was impossible to imagine. A playstation fluke with the friend who always takes the underdog, maybe, but fact, not a chance. Now that the shock has sort of subsided, and looking back, perhaps the signs were all there. The buckeyes played at a different level all season, and their offense was unstoppable because Ted Ginn jr. cannot be covered, allowing the other receivers to run wild. However, you cannot predict injury, and after running back the opening touchdown, the Ohio State University was without its spark plug. Ginn was finished for the night.
The Gators had something to prove, and having had the brilliance of the buckeyes shoved down their throat for weeks on end, the motivation was there. Their defense played a flawless game, and they will be rewarded handsomely in annals of history. So, hats off to the new champs, especially Chris Leak who looked great out there. It was just to bad the Buckeyes never showed up.
Florida was voted number one, but it was not a unanimous vote...
Florida's Head Coach a little cocky, but knows the game...
im Tressel's heave of desperation was going for it on fourth and one from his own thirty down only ten points, something you'd see from Charlie Weis and Pete Carroll, but never from the ultra-conservative Sweatervest. What people neglect to mention is the fantastic spot Ohio State got on second down in that set of plays, which means their inability to convert a mere third and fourth and inches was even more representative of how this game went.* (Preface these comments by saying that I don't think Brady should get the Heisman. Or McFadden. Or Troy Smith. Give it to Calvin Johnson for being so awesome the extra awesome comes out of his hands as he builds water-purification devices.)
Troy Smith was defended all season with the statement "He comes through in the big games". People ignored his lackluster numbers against Illinois, Penn State and Minnesota, and never pointed out how overally terrible his quality of opposition were. They also neglected to point out that he got by with a two-headed monstrosity at tailback that did things to Michigan nobody else, including Southern Cal, could do all season.
