A Normal Morning That Became National News
First off I would like to think everybody for his or her thoughts and prayers. With all of the questions that are left to be answered I hope to shed some light on the event that has taken place. My morning started off when my alarm clock went off at 9:15. I got out of bed, cut my shower on and checked my email like I do everyday. I took my shower and got ready to go to class. My roommate and myself caught the local bus to go to campus. We stop at another bus stop to pick up some more students and that’s when we heard that a “incident” had occurred. I called a friend to see what was going on at 9:50 and found out classes were “Suspended”. We got off the bus and walked back to our apartment. The horror that awaited me when I got back was overwhelming. Had I made it to campus this morning I would have walking outside of Norris Hall at the time of the shooting. I thank God that I wasn’t. I’ve been watching the news since and I cant explain the feelings that I have felt as the death toll kept rising. At first the thought was here we go again, first we had the William Morva shooting and now this. Since that first thought I could not believe that this is happen at such a great university. The question that is most prevalent on my mind is why it took 2 hours for the university to notify us. We have had 2 bomb threats in the past 2 weeks and we were notified as soon as it happened why did it take so long if a shooting had occured and other lives were at stake. I would like to ask for your continued prayers because we need them. Today everyone is a Hokie and people of Hokie Nation stand strong as Hokie's United. Please feel free to email with questions at bcwhite@vt.edu

Do you have any more information about the two bomb threats you mention at Virginia Tech in the past two weeks? Were they related somehow to the shootings?

kate at this time I dont know about the bomb threats and if there related. We thought they were pranks because someone had a test or something. The first threat had a written note that was on engineering paper but thats all I know

Hi Brian, thanks for your report. Every report, every angle and viewpoint, will help to unravel this story, which now has many more questions than it has answers.
In your report, for example, there is a question that begs for answers: "...why it took 2 hours for the university to notify us." In my "other life" as a correspondent for MSNBC, I'd be all over this interesting little piece of information you dropped in here.
Many more questions spring from your simple query: Were there other lives that could have been saved if an earlier warning had gone out? Was there time for an alert? Has the timeline been checked? Seems to me there was a considerable amount of time between when the first shots were fired and the second attack. Where were the authorities? Were the campus police on top this? How long did it take the local police to respond?
Like Columbine, today's tragedy will surely begat a portfolio of other investigations, questions, allegations and the like. Let us know what you hear, or at least, drop me an email and I'll see if I can follow up it up.
