NP Rank:
A peaceful Bagdhad protest, and a NowPublic Mystery
A string of very interesting photos have just arrived from NowPublic member woodkern.
Without a doubt, the photos are authentic, and not "borrowed" from any news agency.
There is little explanation that came with the photoset, but altogether they hint at a remarkable event, and a side of Iraqi society that is massively under-reported.
If you go through the photos one at a time, they do tell fragments of a story.
In the first, you see a bunch of Iraqis gathering to protest the dismantling of an anti-corruption organization, called CPI.
They are carrying a banner that says in Arabic, "Stop Shooting". The caption reads that when photographers arrive, the shooting usually starts.
In the next, Georgian soldier arrive.
Another photo is simply captioned, "Gathering Storm."
And in the last, "Triple Canopy Guard Confronts Iraqi Police"
We sincerely beg that the photographer, woodkern, makes contact with us directly. You can write me at actualnewsguy[at]nowpublic[dot]com. Please replace the brackets, as usual.
You have taken extraordinary risks to bring us these photos, and we would very much like to follow this amazing expression of democratic protest in such dangerous circumstances.
If any NowPublic member can shed any light on this photoset, please comment below.
