A ZIMBABWEAN school teacher who escaped the regime of Robert Mugabe and has been living homeless on the streets of Glasgow in recent times will begin a new life in Jersey later this week.Hopewell Tumbdira's chance to come to the Island arose after millionaire philanthropist Colin Taylor read of his plight in a story featured in a Scottish newspaper in April.
Mr Taylor, who owns the Foresters Arms at Beaumont, said he was touched by Mr Tumbdira's apparent humility and that he feels safer homeless in Glasgow than he did living under the Mugabe regime.
So Mr Taylor contacted the hostel where 40-year-old Mr Tumbdira goes at night to offer him the chance to move to the Island.
