September 04, 2007 - Across the Divide, a Somerset-based specialist in charity and corporate challenges, is helping a UK firm to rebuild a township school in South Africa as an alternative to the traditional company 'away day'.

Across the Divide arranged for all 40 employees at Tamar, a UK internet development company, to spend a week in Cape Town working to build a block of classrooms, lavatories and a playground for a deprived school.

As more businesses start to take corporate social responsibility seriously, the demand for projects that deliver real benefits to the community and their staff is growing. Across the Divide helps corporates put together community and environmental projects which meet their developmental needs and social aims, and which give their staff a true sense of achievement.

Mark Hannaford, managing director at Across the Divide, says: “More and more companies are wanting to do something to make a difference rather than traditional team building. We combine our expertise of running corporate events and expeditions and with our knowledge of the charitable sector to offer unrivalled experience in this field.”

Previous Across the Divide projects range from a football tournament for the Bobby Moore Trust and Cancer Research, to school rebuilding in Namibia for Carphone Warehouse. The organisation also devises physical teambuilding challenges including climbing the three peaks in Nepal, led by Simon Yates of 'Touching the Void' fame.

Across the Divide works with companies to tailor the project to meet their needs, from break out sessions at staff conferences, to team builds and away days. More information can be found at www.csrprojects.com.

Mark Hannaford adds: “We don’t make up projects for the sake of running projects. By working with our network, both in the UK and overseas, we provide local projects that address real needs, are of real value and will be supported and maintained for the long term.”

Over the past 10 years, Across the Divide has worked with over 100 charities to run over 350 events in over 45 countries, and helped raise £26 million for good causes.
