NP Rank:
Adventure Sport in Mumbai?
WaterfallIndra—the god of rains seems to be spending a lot of time in the
company of software professionals and this is evident in his work as
well. Instead of working towards a more comfortable schedule, he seems
to be finishing all the work in a very short deadline. On 26th July two
years ago he dumped of enough water to take care of half of his target
for the whole year, this year too he completed about 15% of has target
yesterday only. What you are seeing in this shot is a small waterfall
created in Aarey colony due to the rains. This is not a river, this is
not a drain. Actually there is no water body there at all it is just
rain water accumulating there.Johny Joseph who used to be the
chairman of the Munciple corporation of Bombay came under sever
criticism when the city was flooded after the rains on the 26th of July
2005. Ever since the monsoon has turned from a pleasent to the most
dreaded season. Because of reckless development, the city is no longer
able to handle the rain water during the monsoon and every year
whenever it rain, the city gets flooded. On the 30th of July
2007, when this picture was taken, it rained about 350 mm in Bombay
(which is just 1/3 of the rainfall of the infamous 26th July) and there
is no prize for guessing what happened to the city on that day.
Thankfully it was a Saturday and like most people, I was able to
witness it from my home instead of beig stuck in my office as on 27th
July 2005 or even worse, stuck on the way.The level of water
rose and rose till it submerged a big part of the city including the
housing society where I live. There was knee deep water inside and the
road was even worse with the traffic of both ways converging on one
side since the other one was completely flooded.True to the
spirit of Mumbai, these Mumbaikars decided to make the most of the
situation and as you can see, they are quite happy in the water. This
is a small stream created by the flood water in Aarey Milk Colony-one
of the last few remaining green parts of the concrete city.

Picturejockey, I think your story has potential but needs some improvement. I've got a few suggestions, and if you give them a try, I'd be happy to remove this flag.
I wasnt sure what was newsworthy in this story. News should always be about posting current stuff - new things you've discovered.
