Al Gore booed at Concordia
Al Gore was granted an honorary degree and gave a speech at Montreal's Concordia University recently. There as a guest, he seemed a bit dismayed when people in the audience began to heckle him, mostly over his home's electricity bill.
By contrast, David Suzuki's portion of the evening was greeted completely positively; this despite the fact that similar accusations were thrown at Suzuki for his cross-Canada campaign bus.
His presentation was halted at least twice as opponents to his agenda began to shout out. They called him a liar and a villain, and screamed, "What about your swimming pools?" in regards to recent allegations that the monthly electricity bill of Gore's estate rivalled a year's bill for the average American home.
This led Gore to joke, "I don't even know if you guys are left- or right-wing".
Suzuki also made a 45-minute speech on the topic du jour. The speech was punctuated by numerous bouts of applause from a rather enthusiastic audience.
He espoused that the media should play a more central role in the way it informs the public, saying, "Over half of all Nobel Prize winners are telling us we could have as little as 10 years to avoid a catastrophe and this is pronounced by our media as 'not newsworthy'.

Mr. Gore is suffering backlash. It happens. If I take a stand against killing puppies but it turns out I kill puppies, this does not mean killing puppies is right. It does mean I will get heckled about it. So he has to take his lumps.
He could have made a good movie using real numbers - he didn't need to exaggerate some effects by 2000% to convince people pollution was bad - but the convenient math plus his having a 29,000 sq ft house and thousands of dollars in electric bills per month just makes him look even sillier when he is flying all over the world telling everyone else they should ride bicycles.

Does anyone get this joke? I'm pretty sure I don't get it. If he's making a joke about questioning the political motives of the people there (i.e. people opposing a Democrat MUST be right-wing, but these people are obviously left-wing), then doesn't that kind of contradict his whole "this isn't a political issue" farce?
