Al Gore's son was arrested early Wednesday on suspicion of possessing marijuana and prescription drugs after deputies pulled him over for speeding.
Al Gore III, 24, was driving a blue Toyota Prius about 100 mph on the San Diego Freeway when he was pulled over at about 2:15 a.m. The officer immediately smelled marijuana and searched the car. Less than an ounce of marijuana was found along with Xanax, Valium, Vicodin and Adderall, which is used for attention deficit disorder.
"He does not have a prescription for any of those drugs," Deputy Amormino said.
It is well known that people who do not have ADD crush Adderall and/or Ritalin into a powder and snort it for a long lasting "manic" high. It is popular with college kids who need to stay up late for studying, and it is socially used as a cocaine substitute called "kiddy candy".
Gore was also was pulled over and arrested for pot possession in December 2003, while he was a student at Harvard University. He completed substance abuse counseling as part of a pretrial diversion program to settle those charges.
