NP Rank:
Is Alberto Gonzales Really that Bad of a Guy?
According to an article on MSNBC.com, Alberto Gonzales is the fourth top ranking official to resign from the Bush administration since November of 2006.
While I don't support the Bush administration in any way (in fact, I deplore it), let's think: Is recently resigned US Attorney General Alberto Gonzales really that bad of a guy? It is true that he dismissed eight US Attorneys for political reasons after they refused to resign, but many politicians have done something similar to that or even worse, and they were not disciplined. Consider Adolf Hitler: He killed more than six million people for no real reason, and he escaped any sentences or trials. It is common knowledge that he (probably) killed himself, but, nonetheless, he escaped punishment. So, who are we to verbally abuse a person to the extent that he decides to resign from his job just to get a little bit out of the spotlight, especially after he did something that was most likely legal?
Well, my answer to that question is that us Americans, as a whole, generally hate George Bush. Therefore, do we really think Alberto Gonzales's actions were innappropriate, or are we just reprimanding him because Bush doesn't seem to be affected by anything anyone throws his way? For this reason, I'm asking everyone to stop focusing on Alberto Gonzales and start focusing on George W. Bush. Why don't we direct the verbal abuse at him? Oh, right because he's unaffected by it. Come on, if you were him, how could you not be affected by the things people say?
Even if that is true, he's still the one we should be directing the abuse at. He's the one that should resign, as he's the one who has broken the law. He's the one that has committed war crimes, sent thousands of innocent young men and women to their graves, started two wars that have gone nowhere, and other terrible things. All Alberto Gonzales has done is dismissed a few US Attorneys.
Of course, Alberto Gonzales did do a little more than that; he also lied about the issue and refused to talk to Congress about the dismissals. However, Bush has lied and refused to talk about political issues hundreds of times, and about much more serious matters than the firings a few US Attorneys.
Like Donald Rumsfeld once said, "Some people lie and get away with it." However, he was not one of those people, Alberto Gonzales is not one of those people, and hopefully, Bush will not be one of those people.

Well, he is basically in favor of Guantanamo and thus against basic human rights. And the interesting thing about the dismissal of attorneys is that they were not in favor of the gouvernment. Thus, the answer is: Yes, he is.

Thank you for your response but I thought the government had asked them to resign and when they refused they were dismissed. However I wasn't aware of his acceptance of the atrocities at Guantanamo.
