Alzheimer Glowers Glow-2 Oct 1st 2007 8PM
As a daughter and Primary Care Giver I have been struggling with my mother's dementia since 2000. I thought I was alone...however, in January 2006 I joined the Canadian Alzheimer's Online Forum and soon came to realize there were hundreds of thousands of Primary Care Givers just like me around the world.
Starting in 2006; the 100th anniversary of Dr. Alois Alzheimer discovering the plaques and tangle traits of Alzheimer's disease, 'Cin' from Nova Scotia and myself, from Vancouver Canada, decided to draw awareness to the unrecognized and invisible thousands who are Primary Care Givers, and so we created a web site in honour of the Care Givers across Canada and around the world. www.freewebs.com/alzheimerglowers
'We' are the Canadian (and world wide) unpaid caregivers who support 97% of those with demenitas. We are the brilliant multifaceted colours of perpetual energy that unselfishly and silently sacrifice our health, time and lives to fight for value, hope, dignity, respect, compassion and human rights for all those afflicted with dementias. We reach out to share our torches of experience with each other to light each other's journeys as we suffer watching the minds of those afflicted slowly eclipse into a permanent abyss of darkness.
We merely ask that you do not 'forget to remember'.
Please string just one multicoloured lights on your porch, eaves, tree, bush, or window to spotlight the challenges of dementias and our struggles as primary care givers. One light bulb, one string, one house, one town, city, province, county and country at a time. We do not ask for anything other than you 'Come glow with us' at 8:00 PM local time on October 1st to place the spotlight on dementias and light up our lives so we know you care about the Care Givers who may one day, just be caring for you.
I would be more than pleased if you would send me a small picture of your 2007 lights and I would like to add your name to our list (only your first name, town and country will appear). Send your 'Glow-2' picture to alzheimerglowers@lycos.com
Bless you all, Jennifer Sierra
