WAVE 3, an NBC television affiliate in Louisville, Kentucky, is putting hoodia to the test. They recruited three volunteers to take hoodia supplements and report their experiences. The experiment started at the end of February and after the initial three weeks, all three volunteers experienced a noticeable difference in their eating habits and all three lost weight.

One "hoodia hopeful" was a nail technician who said hoodia made a significant difference in her appetite and her desire for sweets decreased. She said when she didn’t take her hoodia supplements, she could tell a difference. She lost 12 pounds in the first three weeks of the experiment.

Another hoodia hopeful was a WAVE 3 Assignment Editor. He only lost a couple pounds during the initial three weeks, but he said the hoodia diet pills made a noticeable difference in his eating habits. "…it has helped me change how I eat and how much I eat," he said. Instead of getting seconds or eating a heaping of food, he was able to feel full on just a couple small meals per day.

The final hoodia hopeful was an overweight elementary school principal. She lost six pounds and she said she experienced no negative hoodia side effects. She didn’t get hungry as much and she was less likely to snack while taking hoodia.

While this is a highly informal test, the results are still very interesting. Carrie Weil, the reporter on this story, left a lot of holes in the story and I hope she makes it more complete in her next update on these hoodia hopefuls. For example, I want to know what specific brand of hoodia they are taking and what hoodia dosage they are following. I would also like to know if these results are from hoodia alone, or if these hopefuls are also making changes to their diet and exercise programs. None of this is mentioned in her report.

The next update is apparently going to take place within the next week or so. It should be interesting to see how the hopefuls are coming along!
