Understatement approaching: Anime and Manga fans are a devoted lot. It's a world that inspires not only loyalty but complete immersion. Enter Singapore's Cosfest. An annual event showcasing the best in anime and "cosplay" (costumery depicting a particular character, essentially) held in Singapore, it's like a newer, sexier Star Trek convention. Complete with nerds. Who like taking pictures of girls in tight outfits. Hmm. On second thought, maybe it's exactly like a Star Trek convention. A sample:
I went down to Singapore’s very own annually held cosplay convention last weekend - Cosfest 2007: The Golden Experience. It was spun over 2 days, rather than the usual 1 day event in the past years. I went for both days and I’m happy to say, both days were a feast for my eyes. This year’s one was better than last year’s due to the 2 day duration. More things can be done, and we have more to see.
Last sun marks the Finals of Cosfest. I was there on the 1st day to view the players and the colorful costumes. As expected from the seasoned players, I’m very well received upon asking them for poses and photographs. I do thank some of them for enduring with my “perfection problem” while they were baking under the hot sun.
Really like to take this opportunity to praise all the participants for doing such a wonderful job. Their study of the characters / costumes they are portraying must have been meticulous.
All three days of cosfest were worth going in some sense or another.
Weirdly, i saw the "pangya dude" i was going nutty about after the pangya event. He wore the same shirt for both Saturday and Sunday. (Did he bathe?!)
There were many gender confusions. Many Females cosplay as Males and Males Cosplay as Females
One thing about conventions is that you soon runout of places to walk, and end up walking around the same place again and again. You also would happen to meet the same few noticeable people again and again, like somebody in an SOS-dan t-shirt, somebody with an ill-porportioned head, some fat dude in a Command & Conquer 3 shirt, etc. I never saw Darkmirage and his patented 'I am Darkmirage' shirt though.

I wish I'd seen this story earlier - but what just caught my attention are the fantastic photos that are just coming in. One cool way to do this is to click on the slideshow link above and to the right, you know right below the small thumbnails.
