A bus was attacked in Rio de Janeiro after a day of no attacks (New year's Day) and after the celebrations on New Years Eve took place peacefully among the famous beaches of Rio.  The attack was performed this tuesday afternoon at the Rio borough of São João de Meriti.  The incident did not claim any lives.

Governor Sérgio Cabral, who took charge on January 1st, asked help from the federal foces today.  The Governor said he wants help from the National troops to warrant security of the population.  The Governor did not gave a specific date for the National troops to arrive in Rio, but he said that he is expecting them before Carnaval, in February.

Rio's terror wave started on December 28th and has claimed the lives of 26 people.  The attacks apparently have been orchestrated to punish the police forces who have taken a tough stance on street gangs recently.

Victoria,

I am now in my way to Brasil.  I am a Mexican living there and just spent the holidays in Mexico with my family.  I will land there tomorrow morning.  I will see if I can get pictures or convince a fellow flickrite to post them here.

Thanks a lot for your comments.
