Anti-Idling Law to Take Effect in New Year
Apparently a new law will be coming into effect in the City of Vancouver in January 2006. It is now going to be illegal to leave your car idling for more than three minutes. I think this is fantastic, as apparently it is very bad for the environment to leave your car on. I had no idea this was so bad (worse than driving in general that is) until about six months ago when I started to see ads on the sides of buses. Anyway there is also an Idling Hot Line you can call if someone is just sitting there for ages. The number is 604-257-2404. There is a similar law on the books in North Vancouver but they haven't given anyone tickets yet. If you're caught doing it in the City of Vancouver it will cost you $50 bux.
I wonder if you're supposed to turn it off if you are in a traffic jam. That could be oddly fun, kind of like a giant drive in movie.
