Apple Takes Safari in Windows' Territory
Steve Jobs surprised the computer world yet again with the announcement that Safari (Apple's trademark web browser) is available for Windows users. Expectations of Mr. Jobs have become so high lately that Apple stock fell 3% in value after the address because he did not announce any new products.
June 11, 2007 (Computerworld) -- For his traditional last-minute surprise near the end of the Worldwide Developers Conference keynote today, Apple Inc. CEO Steve Jobs announced that the company is releasing a beta of its Safari browser that runs on the rival Windows operating system."We would love to grow Safari's market share," said Jobs, just over an hour into his presentation. "But how are we going to do that? To do that, we're going to have to create a version of Safari that runs on windows ... and that's exactly what we have done." According to the most recent numbers from metrics vendor Net Applications, Safari has less than 5% of the market, compared with Internet Explorer's 78.7% and Firefox's 14.5%.

I think this is just the second step (after iTunes) in Apple releasing products on to the Windows platform - I think iPhoto will come out with the iPhone.

I think you're right. There's a huge upside for Apple to release new gadgets ( like itunes and iphone) which are totally compatible with Windows; however the Safari release is unique in that it isn't directly link to a specific product. So perhaps this either suggests a new direction for Apple or just Mr. Job's competitiveness getting the better of him.
Update: Safari crashed while I was using it for only the second time.

Oh, you poor dear! Safari crashes all the time, especially when you open too many tabs and windows, which is sooo easy to do with Safari.
But just start it up again. and clear your history if it gets too big, same with the cache.... what OS are you on, Ryan?

Hi Rene,
Thanks for the sympathy - I was running Safari beta for Windows so I was expecting some issues.
