World renowned architect British Will Alsop was in <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Toronto to launch his first Tableware and book signing at Umbra’s first “concept store”.
Since he designed the Sharp Center for Design for the Ontario College of Art in Toronto with its original and humorous elements in his architecture for reason unknown to me, he always referred as the bad boy of architecture. During the opening introduction by Umbra’s co-owner Paul Rowan that label has came up again….
Mr. Alsop loves smoking and he was not impressed with Toronto’s tough no smoking bylaw and spent some of the valuable time during the presentation to voice his objections.
After I had purchased one of his book and waited for half an hour to have it sign by Mr. Alsop but he was nowhere in sight, turned out he was sitting outside the store talking and smoking! Yes, I did managed to has my book signed and Mr. Alsop is a nice guy he also draw a cigarette inspired building on my book.
As for the tableware, they are made of stainless steel and the shape to the hand and retail for $40 per set
