ARE YOUR CHILDREN BEING TARGETED BY ENVIRONMENTALISTS AT SCHOOL?

The debate about global warming is one of the most heated and polarizing topics in the world today. A recently-published children's book urging kids not to pay attention to global warming has drawn a tremendous amount of criticism from environmentalists, teachers and the scientific community. There is a growing market for books openly opposing the science behind current global warming theories, and it seems as though a children's book is a natural next step.

World Ahead Publishing, a California-based company, have released a book titled The Sky Isn't Falling: Why It's Okay to Chill about Global Warming. The book, specifically targeted at school-age children but marketed towards parents, is for parents who are “sick of seeing their kids indoctrinated by has-been politicians and Hollywood stars.” Amazon.com states that the reading level is perfect for 9-12 year olds.

Needless to say, a number of green bloggers have commented on the so-called “brainwashing” of America's children by global warming activists. The majority of green blogs reject the “brainwashing” allegations as paranoia, while finding The Sky isn't Falling to be relatively amusing.

Respected environmental blogger James Bruggers' latest post at Watchdog Earth jokingly asked parents if they think their “kids are getting brainwashed by environmentalists and liberals in the public schools?” Bruggers essentially declared the book to be misleading and that the fundamental views of the author are “A position easily considered to be anti-science.”

The author of The Sky Isn't Falling, ironically named Holly Fretwell, stands by her book.

Seemingly, so does Wisconsin Representative James Sensenbrenner. A recent post in the widely-read green blog Gristmill contained details of a recent diatribe from the little known cheese-state politician. They stated that Sensenbrenner reportedly asked "why global warming has suddenly become an issue of national defense" and afterward accused politicians and pundits of stoking children's fears.

Sensenbrenner seems convinced that children will be confused by the idea that global warming could threaten their safety. The author of the Gristmill post suggests that Sensenbrenner probably could have done his homework better, noting that both a group of retired military generals and the U.N Security Council have both formally recognized that global warming represents a massive threat to global stability.

Doubtlessly, The Sky Isn't Falling will provoke a large amount of debate on both sides of the global warming issue. In order to separate the fact from the fiction, many people are turning to the blogosphere as a non-stop source of news and opinion on some of the hottest topics in the world, global warming included..
