Mark Bamber
Saturday, 10:00 - 11:00am

Local guitarist Mark Bamber has been singing and playing the blues since he was a teenager, and that was quite a ways back. This year he makes it to the ten year mark as a Camano Island resident. Over the years he has been involved in many musical pursuits, from playing and recording with a band in Mexico City in the early ‘70s while attending college there, to 15 years playing solo in the wilderness on his salmon trolling boat in Southeast Alaska. For the past two years he has been playing at events around Stanwood and Camano Island with the local trio “The Souvenirs”. Mark plays many styles of music, but for this solo acoustic performance he will return to his “roots” and play the music he began with, the Blues. Mark loves singing and playing which is easy to see when we listen to him sing the blues songs of Robert Johnson, Albert King, Magic Sam, Muddy Waters, Johnny Winter, John Lee Hooker and other blues greats. Mark Bamber performs from 10:00 to 11:00 on Saturday.

Steve Harris & Mark Dodge
Sunday, 2:00 - 3:00pm

“Honest, heartfelt, and unique” describe the original songs that you’ll hear from Steve Harris. His acoustic guitar style has been influenced and blended by years of playing professionally in folk, country, bluegrass and Celtic bands in a variety of venues. Steve has developed into a fine songwriter, both solo and in collaboration with other writers. Steve became permanently disabled in late 2001, but music and visual arts continue to be positive healing and creative forces in his life. Steve will be performing with Mark Dodge on guitar, bass, and tenor ukulele (Mark is on the LEFT in the photo). Steve and Mark are working on a CD project scheduled for release near the end of the summer, but several of the songs are now available on a compilation CD called One Ton of Ducks. Come listen and buy a CD. Steve and Mark perform from 2:00 to 3:00 on Sunday. Click here for more information about Steve.

Saturday 4:00 -5:00pm

Saturday afternoon listeners will enjoy an hour with Carol Ann Hunner, an Art by the Bay favorite. She is a graduate of the illustrious Guitar Institute of Technology, and continues to perform folk, jazz, and classical music in addition to teaching up-and-coming guitarists. Carol has performed at dozens of festivals and radio stations, and at literally hundreds of concerts and schools nationwide. This year, Carol is joined by Ron Rossel, and together they play acoustic-guitar based "gypsy jazz" ala Django Reinhardt. Carol and Ron perform from 4:00 to 5:00 on Saturday.

Bob Kruse and the Island Krusers
Sunday, 10am - 11am

Bob and the Krusers have been together for about 8 years now, playing Scandinavian music, pop, country, and a healthy dose of "etc.," depending on where they are playing. Bob says "NO Rock & Roll." They also go by the name "Nordic Reflections" (particularly when they are playing at Swedish Hall in Seattle). Nordic Reflections has a CD of Scandinavian music, and Bob also has a CD of fiddle tunes. You betcha you're havin' a good time. Stop, listen, and pick up the CD of your choice. Bob Kruse and the Island Krusers perform from 10am to 11am on Sunday.

Somebody's Mother and the Acoustic Detour
Sunday, 1:00 to 2:00pm

Get off the main road and go for an acoustic detour. Somebody's Mother, in one form or combination or another, has been performing at Art by the Bay for years. The band has recently expanded their horizons with two new members, resulting in an acoustic-based harmony group playing a wide variety of both eclectic and well-known folk material. Carla "Guitarla" Helin and Cathy Tibert each contribute vocals, guitar, and harmonica; Cathy also plays flute. The Acoustic Detour includes Dennis Griffiths (also of Sagegrass) on guitar and vocals, Mike Hilley (also of the South End String Band) on mandolin; and Paul Tibert (formerly soundman and babysitter for Somebody's Mother) on bass. Somebody's Mother and the Acoustic Detour performs from 1:00 to 2:00 on Sunday.

The South End String Band
Sunday, 11am - 1pm

A “fiddle tunes big band,” the South End String Band have created quite a name for themselves in the Stanwood-Camano area. Comprising eleven local musicians on fiddle, guitars, banjos, dulcimers, autoharp, percussion, washboard, easel, sandpaper, etc., the South End Band plays music everybody knows, and peppers each performance with a generous helping of down-home wit and wisdom, served up by their anonymous “spiritual advisor,” Skeeter Daddle. The hardest working band on Camano Island will have a second CD out soon, entitled “Victims of Unbridled Ambition” recorded on Camano Island. Their first CD, "Legends in their own Minds" went "rusty tin," (not quite multi-platinum) according to Skeeter. Come listen and buy their CDs. The South End String Band performs from 11:00 to 1:00 on Sunday. Click here for more information about The South End String Band.

The Village Theatre’s Kidstage
Saturday, Noon to 1:00

Village Theatre's excellent Kidstage program and Art by the Bay have been supporting each other for years, and this year is no exception. The Kidstage mission is to provide a personal development program for young people that uses theatre arts to teach creativity and responsibility; to encourage teamwork and personal integrity; and to foster self-esteem and appreciation for live theatre. Village Theatre's Kidstage performs from 12:00 to 1:00 on Saturday. For more information, see www.villagetheatre.org

Pattie Vail
Saturday, 11am to Noon

Pattie is a Camano Island guitarist with an eclectic background. Her jazz roots and flamenco studies, along with blues and Indian music influences, combine for a smooth, vivid sound. She will create a loosely improvised, hypnotic soundscape as the sun waxes over Camano Island. Melody Maker magazine said of Pattie, “Guitar is her forté, and she makes a nice sound with it.” Pattie has a long and varied performance resumé, including appearances in Europe, London, and Seattle's Bumbershoot, and studied at London’s Royal Academy of Music. Pattie performs from 11:00 to 12:00 on Saturday.

DIRECTIONS:

Take Interstate 5 to the Stanwood-Camano Island exit (exit 212), and head West through Stanwood to Camano Island (approx. 7 miles).

NEW! - When you get to the Camano Gateway (a.k.a. Terry's Corner), look for the Park N Ride, where you can park and take the FREE shuttle bus to the fairgrounds.

Turn right on Cross Island Road, and then take an immediate right on Arrowhead Road (approx 500 feet).

Take the next right (approx 1000 feet, at the Camano Island Senior and Community Center sign), and drive straight back to Utsalady Elementary School. (Parking is not permitted at the Senior Center)

Park, walk back to the school and enjoy the festival!
