An interesting show is opening tonight in an interesting art gallery.

The interesting art gallery is Ars Virtua, located in the multiuser online environment Second Life.

The interesting show is called "Imaging Place SL: The US/Mexico Border" by John (Craig) Freeman, or JC Fremont as he is known in Second Life.

Here is how the artist describes it: "Imaging Place" is a place-based, virtual reality art project. It takes the form of a user navigated, interactive computer program that  combines panoramic photography, digital video, and three-dimensional  technologies to investigate and document situations where the forces  of globalization are impacting the lives of individuals in local  communities. "

From the screen shots I'm seeing a landscape of giant inflated shapes showing mapped images, with Second Life avatars of all shapes and sizes moving in and around them.

There will also be an improvisational performance by the Second Front, a Second Life performance art group.

The installation opens tonight, Friday, January 5th at 7:00 pm. Linden time (7:00 pm.PST or  10:00 pm. EST) at Ars Virtua http://arsvirtua.com. Install the most  recent version of Second Life http://secondlife.com and direct your
browser to secondlife://Butler/248/23/53/ or teleport from within
Second Life to 'Ars Virtua: Gallery 2, Butler (248, 23, 53)'.
