The International Auschwitz Council has agreed to modernize the death camp which is a change in their approach to maintain the site the way it was found almost 50 years ago.  The decision is prompted by the gas chambers sinking into the ground.  Some Holocaust survivors  fear that modernization could turn the camp into a "museum" type of a place and damage the "soberness of the site," where 1.5  million Jews perished.
