AUSTRALIA: Laughter - as Police Criticised for Another Blunder in Haneef Case

Claims have emerged that the young medical doctor,  Dr Haneef,  who was arrested when he was on his way out of Australia to meet his wife after she'd had her baby, has been tricked by Australian Federal police and representatives of the Australian government, at a time when it was suspected that the recent "terror threats" in England were a set up! The question needs to be asked, How can the Australian government be worried about "politically damaging leaks about aspects of the case" if they are not guilty of setting Dr. Haneef up for political expediency? The truth is emerging, thankfully, before the next election.

But, first - here is something to laugh about:

Heightened Terrorist Alerts

In light of recent Terrorist activities in Europe the locals have reacted accordingly...

The English
are feeling the pinch in relation to recent terrorist
threats and have raised their security level from "Miffed" to "Peeved."
Soon, though, security levels may be raised yet again to "Irritated" or
even "A Bit Cross." Londoners have not been "A Bit Cross" since the
blitz in 1940, when tea supplies all but ran out. Terrorists have been
re-categorized from "Tiresome" to a "Bloody Nuisance."

The last time the British issued a "Bloody Nuisance" warning level was during the great fire of 1666.

Also, the French government announced yesterday that it has raised its
terror alert level from "Run" to "Hide."  The only two higher levels in
France are "Surrender" and "Collaborate." The rise was precipitated by
a recent fire that destroyed France's white flag factory, effectively
paralyzing the country's military capability.

It's not only the English and French that are on a heightened level of alert.

Italy has increased the alert level from "Shout Loudly and Excitedly" to "Elaborate Military Posturing." Two more levels remain:  "Ineffective Combat Operations" and "Change Sides."

The Germans
also increased their alert state from "Disdainful
Arrogance" to "Dress in Uniform and Sing Marching Songs." They also
have two higher levels: "Invade a Neighbor" and "Lose."

Belgians
, on the other hand, are all on holiday as usual, and the only
threat they are worried about is NATO pulling out of Brussels .

The Spanish
are all excited to see their new submarines ready to
deploy. These beautifully designed subs have glass bottoms so the new
Spanish navy can get a really good look at the old Spanish navy.

CANBERRA - The case against Mohamed Haneef unravelled further today as police faced claims they had doctored evidence against the Indian doctor accused of supporting a terrorist organisation.
Reports suggested police had written the names and contact numbers of overseas terror suspects in Haneef's personal diary, or on extracts from the diary, before asking the accused during an interview if the potentially incriminating notes were his handwriting.

Haneef, 27, told police he had not written the notes, according to extracts from the record of interview published in The Australian and conducted shortly after Haneef's arrest at Brisbane airport on July 2.

The damaging claim followed revelations that, contrary to evidence presented to a Brisbane court by prosecutors, Haneef's mobile phone SIM card was not found in a burning car that crashed into Glasgow airport on June 30.

Yesterday, Australian Federal Police commissioner Mick Keelty also denied News Ltd reports Haneef was being investigated for plotting to bomb the Gold Coast's Q1 tower, the world's tallest residential building.

Haneef's barrister Stephen Keim said today there were serious questions about why police would write on a diary that could be required as evidence.

"Why would investigating police officers write on something which may later turn out to be evidence?" Mr Keim told ABC Radio.

"So it's more a question of an issue of policing rather than issues in the case against my client."
