Authorities Close Part of I-5 in Castaic in Bid to Contain Blaze

Two lanes of Interstate 5 remained closed today in Castaic as firefighters continued to battle a stubborn brush fire that has burned more than 16,000 acres since Labor Day, officials said.

Officials had closed the major artery Monday night but reopened all but two southbound lanes overnight. The two lanes, are expected to remain shut until about 6 p.m., said California Highway Patrol Officer John Seumanutafa.
