Egyptians journalists are so furious. They are angry, as, after years of campaigning for the abolishment of imprisonment penalty in publishing offences, the new draft law of âPublishing Crimesâ has stipulated that penalty. This is seen as a clear insult to journalists and their union. Furious journalists have no way to go but to take to the streets of Cairo and to march up to the gates of the Peopleâs Council (the Parliament) in order to express their opposition to the new law of âPublishing Crimesâ. The move by Egyptian journalists to take to the streets of Cairo has illustrated the need for public support. Without this support, journalists will look isolated and the government with its mighty political and media machines will be poised to win. Journalists, like tens of thousands of Egyptians, have broken away from the chains of fear. They will never go back again.
