Baby Died As Seven Fled
An eight-month-old baby has died after a terraced house caught fire in Oldham, Greater Manchester.
Seven people managed to flee from the blaze, which left the baby trapped in an upstairs bedroom.
A 15-year-old girl broke her ankle as she escaped from the flames on Turner Street in the Lees area.
A
spokesman for Greater Manchester Fire Service said: "We were called at
6.08pm and the first fire engine was on the scene at 6.12pm.
"We
were immediately informed there was a baby inside and crews were sent
in straight away, and discovered a body in an upstairs room.
"There
were flames coming from the upstairs bedroom window when we arrived,
and it is possible that the room was where the fire started, but until
the investigation has been completed, we cannot be sure."
The baby, who was recovered from the burning building, had suffered severe burns and died at the scene.
Police, the fire service and forensic scientists have launched an invetigation to investigate the cause of the blaze.
