In a new bid to reach the girls of tomorrow, Mattel had revamped their Barbie product line, introducing a Barbie mp3 player...

I think they look more like Bratz, but Mattel's not gunning for my dollar/euro/pound/yen, so who cares what I think.

Mattel has unveiled Barbie Girls, MP3 players designed to look like dolls that also hook into an online virtual community for girls. The device, which is about 4-and-a-half-inches tall, is set to come out in July and sell for about $60.

Mattel is touting BarbieGirls.com as the first global virtual world
designed specifically for girls. According to Mattel, girls can create
virtual characters by picking "from 2.64 quadrillion character
combinations of fashions and accessories, as well as stylish faces,
expressions and hairstyles."

So... how hackable are these things? What will users find these devices capable of?

Life in plastic... fantastic.
