''How would you like this magnificent landmark in your front garden?
If this was in my garden I would want to put an ornamental stainless steel attractive fencing around it. I would replace any broken panes of glass and preserve the structure. Then I would charge tourists a small fee say £1 by way of a ticket machine barrier to be able to drive in and view this magnificent 1980's landmark close up.
If it wasn't for the fact that its right bang in the middle of the new Life buildings private housing estate, you could have endless possibilities for reuse.
Northampton Saints Rugby Football Club and Northampton Town football Stadiums plus the Beacon Bingo premises are only a stones throw away.
Massive car parks abound at Sixfields, Beacon and Saints.
Any good ideas would be welcomed by the residents, Northampton Borough Council and The University of Northampton as the structure is not used at the moment apart from being a terrific landmark.
There are far worse structures in the town, like the Gas Works, and a pink colored hotel, and I believe that the Express lift tower should stay. Seattle paid millions for the Space Needle beauty

Researchers at the University of Northampton's lift technology department have carried out extensive checks on the condition of the tower. They want to hear from residents, businesses and academics who think they can come up with a use for the tower's unusual dimensions.Proposals for a commercial use can be emailed to lift-tower@northampton.ac.uk by Monday, March 5.
