Bee Disappearance (CCD) and Cell Phones? Scientists Believe a Link Exists

For almost a year now I have become increasingly concerned about why our bees are disappearing and what in desolate hell we are going to eat in a few years if we can't figure this out.  Scientists and bee keepers are calling it Colony Collapse Disorder or CCD.  Among other suggested causes, there are real scientists that believe there may be a link between cell phone usage and the loss of our pollinating saviors.  Would you be willing to give up your digital connection to what you call life if it meant saving it?   Coincidentally, or maybe not, the recent increase over the last few years of CCD coincides with the advances in use if the newer 3G technology that pushes transmission from base station transmitter frequencies in the 2110 - 2170  MHz range.  Prior to this, there was limited use of these frequencies.

As working with bees is naturally a pain in the ass, humans have been trying to find other ways to pollinate for centuries.  Unfortunately nothing compares with the good old honey bee. I have heard it said, albeit from non-reputable sources, that almost 90% of our worlds food is pollinated by bees. No bees means nothing to eat for most of the world. Most wine grapes are blessed by the hairy legs of our little friends.  If you do a simple internet search for crops pollinated by bees you will find a variety of lists, none of which are short.  I for one would be willing to make some major changes to my lifestyle if it meant I could still eat citrus fruit.  Scurvy is bad for you.

If there is a simpler cause, like the use of gnarly pesticides, herbicides, or GM crops, I sure hope our corporate farms and those trying to compete with them can settle for slightly reduced profits before all their customers die.   It could of course be a combination of the all the above.  Maybe the cell phone base stations confuse the bees so they get lost.  Maybe it weakens their immune system.  Maybe it effects just enough of their populations that they are not able to clean themselves or their hives as they usually would, thereby allowing the build up of fungus or mites.  Maybe exposure to GM crops has changed their susceptibility to damage from cell phone signals, mites, or parasites, possibly through the reduction of antioxidants.  Unfortunately loosing the race to solve this dilemma cold leave us all fighting to survive.

This story is getting bigger and bigger, but I still think that most of us don't really realize how much we need our stripped, stinging colleagues. Pollination is a dirty job, but someone's gotta do it.

It's ridiculous how we all sit by and let corporates destroy the earth. We even help them. I own 3 cell phones.
