NP Rank:
Bennett Alexander says "The power of life and death. How? They have their women under total control."
The Drill
Sergeant emblem contains the oath "This We'll Defend".
This is part of
an institutional subset of the professional Army ethic.
It is a lofty
ideal to be passed on to the next generation of soldiers by Drill
Sergeants. This, of course, means more than simply the USA but,
moreover, our way of life, our values, mom, apple pie, the flag and yes
baseball. All things within our scope ad infinitum.
As we realize
what this means, we rely upon how we view things through the prism of
history, social learned behavior, personal and collective values and our very
own intimate perspectives So too, do all institutions view all
manner of things through their prisms. This is where its starts to get
complicated.
One hundred
years ago, fifty years ago, ten years ago things were simpler. We had a
clearer image of what this meant. Now with the media, globalization, the
internet, cell phones and other various technologies one might be hard pressed
to define this. If we were to take a survey of say 1000 people we would
need a federal grant to a major university to distill down the meaning of
this. In our most intimate places within, we all have "This we'll
defend" issues. Might be a woman, might be a boat, maybe a stock
portfolio, money, power, a way of life, your personal comfort zone.
Well every thing
has its personal comfort zone: nations, institutions, people, ABC, Fox
news, even Britt Hume. Who could be better than Mr Hume. I like to
think like me, he is a nautical guy; probably has a wonderful sailboat. My
she's yar, or whatever it was Hepburn and Grant were saying. I love my
classic Mako 224. What would I be willing to do to preserve that boat?
Just about anything reasonable. So, then, all of our institutions and
folks of influence have their boats as well, and, they would do anything they
could to preserve them.
Power of any
kind is particularly hard to give up. One kind that comes to mind is in the Middle East. What power do the clerics wield?
Absolute power over the people. The power of life and death. How? They have
their women under total control. Do you think they are going to give that up?
No way JOSE! Can you imagine total control over women? We may have wished
for this in love affairs. I mean it actually does make the world go
round. It is another one of the forces of nature over which we have no control
However, I tell you those Islamist Clerics, they've got it... and that THEY WILL DEFEND,
at ALL costs!
