NP Rank:
Berlinale in Berlin

I love German film, and not because I am dating a beautiful German girl, which does not hurt, but because German film brings such an edge to it that Hollywood has lost. The films just feel Indy without having to say they are, and the acting is always amazing. I must admit my range of German film is small in comparison to some, but Berlin will play host to the German Film Festival on Thursday. It was noted that there is a real shortage of German film being represented at this years festival, which is a real shame...
For a few days in February each year, Berlin transforms itself into the center of the film world with the annual Berlin International Film Festival, also known as the Berlinale. The bleak winter city gets a touch of movie magic as international celebrities descend on the German capital and hundreds of films play at packed movie theaters across the town.

The Berlinale has a climate problem: right now, it's too cold in Berlin
for most of the north american stars... Cannes is cooler :)

Since the Oscar Ceremony is around the corner
some of them prefer to promote their movies
at home instead of rocking Berlin.
The German Film is difficult to promote inter-
nationally since it's a lot about language
and the German stories are not
developped as professionally
for the international market.
Dieter Kosslick, head of Berlinale, said
that the Germans Films do not need
as much promotion anymore...
And in the end, a "Berlin Bear" does
not really help at the box office.
But it's still like Christmas for
all filmmakers over here.
Please, join our
party in Berlin!

The foto of Cate Blanchette is magical. Many thanks to our member who posted it. I'd like to find out how the foto was taken, and the "back story" on the whole night!

i´m happy you like it. because its all about "the good german" its probably okay to answer in bad english.
i was just standing in the public crowd far to far away, hiding the camera with 300mm-tele from the snow. i arrived late at the carpet, but had no professional interest. i´m very far from professional and knew i had very little chance to get a good picture. i tried hard in this few moments because of cate. since i first saw her in "elizabeth" years ago i´m ... addicted.
i went home and had some happy cocktails. nothing else mattered.
