If you're looking for Pulp Fiction or Kill Bill, you're in the wrong place. The festival is called “Los Angeles Grindhouse 2007” and it will feature selections from Tarantino’s personal collection of kitschy, cult films. For a festival schedule, check out the New Beverly Cinema website.
Genrephile Quentin Tarantino and the New Beverly Cinema team up to present a cornucopia of blaxploitation, chopsockey and gore from March 4th – April 30th, 2007. Fest will feature double and triple bills in the tradition of the old Times Square spank-houses. Fest will include such classics as Grave of the Vampire, Chinese Hercules and The Mack. Film nerds and QT fanboys will likely show up in droves to admire the complex themes and character arcs of films like The Girl From Starship Venus and Jailbait Babysitter with an unironic cluelessness usually reserved for 70’s pop-culture trash like Leif Garrett records and the first season of the Herculoids.
Some kids love Disneyland, but for little Quentin Tarantino, the happiest place on Earth was always a scabby L.A. movie theater. That's where he could sit in the dark with bloodied samurais, dangerous pimps and zombie brides. His search for the next matinee took him to every freeway and to distant neighborhoods, which is why Tarantino now knows the city like the back of an amputated hand.
Sometimes, it's even hard for the filmmaker to say where the movie screen stops and the real Los Angeles begins.
