Bible Quote Causes Sexist Hiring Practices

A woman was fired from teaching at a Texas Seminary because of this Bible quote from the Apostle Paul: "I do not permit a woman to teach or have authority over a man. She must be silent, for Adam was formed first, then Eve, and Adam was not the one deceived. It was the woman who was deceived and became a sinner." The woman's defense is that she believes that Paul didn't mean it literally. There are often these types of debates among Theologians - some take Bible quotes literally while others disregard them as obsolete or not consistent with Christianity. At a seminary, SHOULD the Bible be taken literally to determine hiring practices?
