The Big Brother State

The news has a predictable tenor to it:

The FBI improperly uses the Patriot Act to spy on thousands of Americans.

Tony Blair asks for more resources to track terrorism.

Sweden admits to phone taps on its citizens.

All this as a prelude to a brilliant video made by students at the Fachhochschule Augsburg, a German  engineering university near Munich (you may wish to skip all of this and immediately watch the video, below). But first the current news environment:

President Bush acknowledged on Saturday “F.B.I. shortfallings” in the disclosure that the bureau improperly used the USA Patriot Act to obtain thousands of business, financial and other records in the United States.[/q]

Earlier this year, Tony Blair announced plans to allow government departments to share more information about us, while rubbishing the suggestion that this would lead to the creation of a "Big Brother" super-database. At the moment, he said, over-zealous rules on data-sharing leave government departments hamstrung.
