Truemors
Often it is better to get the opinion of someone who is closest to a
situation than it is to get the uninformed opinions of people thousands
of miles away. In that vain here is an excellent point made by IraqtheModel blog:
what form of Islam are you inviting America to endorse?
If it’s Sunni Islam then do you reccomend the Hanafi, Shafi’i or Salafi
doctrine? And if it’s Shi Islam, which hierarchy would you recommend?
The Iranianone of Khamenai, the Iraqi with its four great Ayatollahs,
or the Lebanese represented by Hussein Fadhlallah? Or maybe sheik Bin
Laden is going to graciously leave America to choose its new faith
freely!?
I doubt that many in America would have noticed this particular
nuance. But there is a particular nuance that the New York Times’ David
Brooks did pick up on and that is that what Osama was saying is indistinguishable from anything spouted on the left.
Oh, and since we are getting so used to videos here, here is a great (kidding) piece of propaganda from some leftist
who, surprise, surprise, calls himself “non-political.” Juxtaposing Fox
News coverage of the run-up to Iraq with what is being said about Iran
he artfully makes the point that Fox News is this God-awful cog in the
neocon war machine set on total destruction. I am so glad the youth of
America can find something to do other than drugs but couldn’t it be a
little less un-American?
But not everything about video has to be bad or boring. Here’s some video about a changing skyline.
Oh, and to end everything on a high note we find from the people at
the DailyKos that there is a difference between “working” and “slight
gains.” When you have to split hairs like that why not just give up the
ghost and re-employ to a place where you could be a fast action force.
The NY Times offers a similar read of the facts on the
ground to the previous WaPo series that finds severe limits to any
claims of ’success’. There’s no more inane and idiotic claim that ‘the
surge is working’. Working in what way achieve US goals? A more
accurate summary is provided by the Times:Troop Buildup, Yielding Slight Gains, Fails to Meet U.S. Goals
