Microsoft founder Bill Gates doesn't sit on the coveteous chair of "Planet's Richest Man" anymore. The new guy? It's Mexican telecom tycoon Carlos Slim Helu.
Slim who according to Forbes ratings in April was second richest after besting legendary US investor Warren Buffett, now exceeds Gates at a difference of around nine billion dollars in Slim's favour. While as second richest, forbes estimated Slim's wealth at 53.1 billion dollars while Gates sat on 56 billion.
Besides America Movil, Slim controls a number other businesses including INBURSA financial group and the Grupo Carso industrial firm with interests spanning retail stores, coffee shops and restaurants.
The son of Lebanese immigrants, Slim's attributed to being a naturally born businesman and it's little wonder he's gone this far. Known for his simplistic lifestlye, he like Gates has also developed a strong philantropic profile.
