NP Rank:
Binge drinking youth
Binge drinking youthAt least one third of Australia's young adults call themselves binge drinkers according to some frightening new statistics on alcohol.
Latest research shows one in three 18-24 year old's over indulge, admitting they 'binge drink' and most think there's nothing wrong with drinking regularly to get drunk.
A further one third said they drink more than ten alcoholic beverages in a session but none knew they were 'bingeing'.
The research also found advertising campaigns have had little effect on turning around the image of binge drinking.
An educational group is now planning alcohol free events which will be rolled out around the country.
Experts say pubs and clubs should also take some of the blame and better supervise their premises to ensure the safety of the people they serve.
Clubs NSW say they are co-operating with police to identify hot spots and develop strategies to try and overcome these problems.
