In giving footballs out to Afghan children the US has angered some Muslims and appears to have scored an own goal.

A demonstration has been held in south- east Afghanistan accusing US troops of insulting Islam after they distributed footballs bearing the name of Allah.

The balls showed the Saudi Arabian flag which features the Koranic declaration of faith.

The US military said the idea had been to give something for Afghan children to enjoy and they did not realise it would cause offence.

One Afghan MP said it was offensive to have a verse of the Koran written on something that you kicked with your foot.

It's weird that nobody stopped to consider that kicking the name of someone's god would cause offense... sort of points out the tin ear for local issues that occupying armies tend to have.

it's wierd that nobody is really bothered when Christians and their God are constantly kicked around. By those same Muslims who are so sensitive. Ask the Christian Korean hostages.

yeah one is that it is ok to insult Jesus and horrible to insult Mohamed. I would say those are different issues. I bet the Athiests and Anti Christians who go around defacing the image of Jesus would stop doing it  If Christians went around beheading those who insult Jesus. But Christians do not go around beheading people I wonder what religion does.

My question is why would a Saudi Arabia who are predominately Muslim let a Saudi Arabian company who one assumes is a Muslim company allow soccer ball to be emblazoned with a religious icon?  I would like to think the US Army were unaware this was wrong as they recieved the balls from a Muslim country in the first place.

Blame should be place, not on the US Army, but the country of origin who placed the labels on the balls in the first place.

There aren't Muslim bookstores in Afghanistan selling Mohammed on a keychain or shot glass.

Even in no one else did it, Christians will put Jesus on a football themselves. Don't criticize them for taking their religion seriously.

After all this time it's not rocket science to understand that a Muslim would have a problem with sacred writings being "kicked" around. Even Comedy Central understood it.

Either gross incompetence or a deliberate act. If I was cynical, I would say it was a deliberate act.

citizenx did you say taking their religion seriously? are you kidding? how seriously do think they take it, maybe serious enough to blow up San Diego? Oh sorry isn't that were you live?

What I said applies to graven images. You won't find Mohammed on a keychain or a pot holder or maybe an apron, but you will find Jesus.

I don't really think it is necessary to threaten people on here.

CitizenX I do not plan on blowing up San Diego, I'm a loving Christian catholic raised boy. I just found it interesting that you refer to a religion that is involved in an orgy of violence killing anyone they just feel like killing, children Women and then hide behind those that are most vulnerable and point the finger at us when there is colateral damage. And you say not to critisize them for taking their religion seriously. And if given the chance would destroy any U.S. city even Miami were I am.

Actually you could make the case the MOST Muslims just want to live their lives as MOST Christians do.

I'll tell you what, I won't unfairly call Christians terrorist for blowing up abortion clinics and you don't call Muslims terrorist for what Al-Queada (sp) does.

I am really not here to argue with you, nor am I here to make baseless statements.

abortion clinics? are you comparing one Christian Crazy to the millions of Muslims on jihad who are currently blowing up our soldiers in battle? You should quit before you look more foolish.

Ahhh... so you agree you shouldn't base our opinions of a group of people on the actions of a few! Wouldn't want to unfairly categorize people.

The South Korean Chritians aree obviously Enemy Combatants, and are being treated the same way as any Enemy combatants would by the USA. That is Kidnap them, Render them to a secret location, Hold them in definatly without Charge, and Dissapear them if it is expedient.

Thanks to the Messianic Christian agenda the Geneva conventions do not apply.

You know Sth, your'e right !  How silly of me to overlook that. Who says China doesn't have a sense of humour? I hear China lost out on a lucrative contract manufacturing Islamic "Left Handed" Toilet Paper, but someone in China made the mistake of manufacturing "Right Handed" Toilet Paper. Boy, was China's Face Red. Of course much to the dismay of Millions of  Muslims suffering the immediate and fast acting ill effects of "Bad Humus" and lack of Arabic instructions on how to use it in the outhouse.  Those "Wacky" Asians. You know, you just can make this stuff up, it just writes itself sometimes.
