The municipal dhobi ghats, near Mahalakshmi suburban railway station, is a huge open-air laundry. Each morning, washing from all over Mumbai is brought here to be thrown into soapy piles and thumped by the resident dhobi-wallahs in the countless concrete tanks, barrels and shanty shacks inside the compound. The next day, after being aired, pressed, folded in newspaper and bound with cotton thread, the bundles are returned to whence they came. The secret behind this smooth operation is a symbol marked on each item of clothing; each dhobi-wallah has their own code – invisible to the untrained eye but understood by all in the washing business – that ensures the safe passage of laundry.

Hi,
We're working on a social psychology textbook and wondered if we could use this image on the cover of the book. The textbook has a print run of 4,000 and is meant for the Indian market only. Could you please let me know what kind of permissions/payments will be involved for us to use this photo? We would require a high-res (preferably tiff) image.
Since it's a low-priced textbook (priced at Rs 395 = a little more than $8), we cannot afford to pay a lot for the image, but will, of course, give all due credit. Could you let me know whether it'll be possible for us to use the photo? I would really appreciate an early reply.
Sincerely,
