Some Grand Theft Auto action: I have no idea how you can get going that quickly in Sydney.
A man will appear in court today after allegedly being clocked driving at 169kmh in an 80kmh zone at Bondi Junction last night.
Police believe the ute was involved in a street race with another car, which got away.
Highway patrol officers booked the Ford Falcon XR8 at 10.50pm travelling west in Syd Enfeld Drive.
The Falcon was allegedly racing a late model BMW with Queensland plates.
"The late model BMW was travelling in close proximity behind [the offender's] vehicle in another lane," a police spokesman said.
The two were the only vehicles on the stretch of road at the time.
Police pulled the Ford over and booked its 25-year-old driver with dangerous driving and exceeding the speed limit by more than 45kmh.
The spokesman confirmed Syd Enfeld Drive was a popular spot for street racers.
"It's a regular place of enforcement for Rose Bay highway patrol because there are continuing speeding offences detected on that section of roadway," the spokesman said.
The driver was bailed to appear in Waverley Local Court on January 16.
In other news, a 28-year-old man from Mayfield in the Hunter Valley, driving a white Hyundai Excel, was pulled over by police in a routine stop and was allegedly found to have been banned from driving until 2073 due to previous charges.
