Jamison Stone's father states that the hog weighs over 1,000 pounds and is over 9 feet long.
I understand that the boy feels a sense of achievement, but personally I just found the whole story sad.

The pic looked like a bad Photoshop job to me, but the experts have vetted it...and yeah, it is pretty sad.

I totally agree. Why kill it? People are sick.

Why is it sad? Because he killed it himself? Do you eat meat? Do you wear leather? It's not sick to kill an animal to eat it. It's part of nature. Myself, I don't hunt, and I don't eat pork, but I certainly don't have a problem with him doing it. I probably would have chosen a different weapon, but that's neither here nor there. I also wouldn't hunt in a confined area as they did, but this was a feral animal that would do nothing but damage the enviroment it was in, since it didn't belong there.
As far as the photo where he is standing behind the pig, he was probably farther than you can tell behind it causing forced perspective to make the animal look bigger and not photoshop. That explaination works, and it's easier, so it's probably true.

ionnes has a point. Feral animals destroy enviroments and feral hogs are one of the most violent types. While I do not condone senseless animal slaughter, hunting this type of animal helps whatever enviroment it may be living in at that moment.
The father seems to have good hunting ethics, too. Hunting animals for sustinance has been mankind's job for centuries, and this dad seems to honor that. It's the recklesss hunters that give hunting a bad name.
