- July 1, 1932 ribbon cutting ceremony officially opened the Burrard Street Bridge. This bridge has been in use for 75 years as of July 1, 2007. Unfortunately the disaster of the bridge in Minnesota that was built in the 60's some 40 years ago, compared to the Burrard Bridge that's still going strong. Question: Was the construction not up to standards. There are bridges throughout the world that have survived earthquakes, hurricanes, tornadoes and floods, and they are still in use today. Maybe we can learn something about engineering and construction techniques of bridges in general. P.S. For more info on the Burrard Bridge or other bridges check out the wikepedia website. P.S.S. Let's hope the Burrard Bridge is in use for another 75+ years. (30)
