A primary school completed at the
cost of more than one million rupees remains closed
due to the presence of high tension transmission lines
passing over the school that being dangerously closer
the building send noticeable electric charge at the
students.
A visit to Khabbal village located in Mankiala
Muslim union council of tehsil Gujar Khan , revealed
that the villagers had generously donated a piece of
land for the construction of school building in their
village and after their hectic efforts the school
building could be constructed at the government funds
amounting more than one million rupees. According to
the villagers no sooner the building of the school was
completed the Wapda men came and they started erecting
high tension transmission line that was to surpass the
school building with close proximity. The villager had
raised hue and cry that it would expose the school
children to the danger of electrocution but the Wapda
men insisted that the survey of this transmission line
was conducted earlier and at that time it was not
possible for them to avert the situation and the
engineers engaged by Wapda completed their project
without giving consideration to the safety of the
children, the residents said. According to them the
transmission line was turned live and it was noticed
that the iron made doors and windows of the school
building was charged with the electric current during
the cloudy days and on rain time the situation was
aggravated and any body passing beneath the
transmission lines suffered electric shocks. The
terrified residents refused to send their children to
this new building of the school and thus the school
was temporarly shifted to the house of villager that
according to the villagers in not a permanent solution
.
Similarly the residents of Kauntrila village
has also complained that a high transmission line was
also passing over their houses and the concerned
authorities of Iesco were not taking measures to
remove the 11 kv line from close vicinity of their
houses. It is pertinent to mention that the Kauntrila
complaint was also pointed out by Dawn some months
back but the Iesco authorities in Gujar Khan stopped
short at preparing an estimate while no practical
measures has yet been taken by SDO Guliana .The
residents have urged upon the minister for Water and
Power and the chairman Wapda to direct for averting
the dangerous transmission line or pay damages to them
for the loss of school building so that they may get
new school building for their girls and boys. The
Kauntrila residents also demanded for the removal of
the dangerous lines from their houses.
