THE AFTERMATH OF KATRINA

This is a story of survival coming form Tacoma Washington.  It is also a personal story because my parents were in the mist of Katrina one week after celebrating their family reunion in Biloxi Mississippi.  My parents are (76-72years)  by the Grace of God they survived this catastrophe ruin of their families foundation, friends and the place where they were born and  three of their children were born.  The aftermath of Katrina left them devastated, overwhelmed and a lost for words, as they drove pass looking back at her destruction of the home they grew up in split into pieces. My parents survival can teach us the power of the human spirit and it’s innate ability to survive insurmountable odds. It was not until Tuesday morning 8/30/05 that we received a signal to our parents by cell phone. Friends who lived in Ocean Springs Mississippi had volunteer to drive them up a back road to a small airport. In the mean time we prayed and tried to make plans to find our parents.   Refusing to give up I called mothers cell phone and she and suddenly she said,” hello” surprised that the cell was working. I screamed,  “Mama” I know I scared her, but I we had not heard from them since Sunday night.  We are at a small airport and we will be home tonight.  I only heard bits and devastating pieces of her conversation and that’s when I heard her say I just went pass my mothers house and it was in ruins and everything around it has simply vanished.

We want our story told to give HOPE to those who have lost hope in the mist of what looks like no hope.  How our parents survived is nothing short of a miracle and attest to the power of answered prayers.   The Aftermath of Katrina is history to tell their thirty grandchildren, and host of great grandchildren, of how God brought them out of bewilderment and utter devastation for a reason; to give God the Glory by telling this amazing story. . .

This country had better wake up and see that it is a matter of time before these while weather patterns, hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes and the Waft of God hit home.  “It rains on the just and the unjust.” I am crying out to all Americans to look at this devastation through the eyes of God.  The devastation of Biloxi, Mississippi, New Orleans, Louisiana, Florida, and the other states/ cities that were hit was a natural disaster.  However, history tells us that it is through tragedy and loss and not until that- do we seek a higher calling, God.   America this is a wake up call for America to open up her eyes!  Put not your trust in man (Government, FEMA and people in high places) but put your trust in God.  Human suffering draws us back to our true sanctity and who we truly are; we are spirit.   The aftermath of Katrina showed us that the human spirit is tenacious.  What people do you know that could have survived five days with out any water food or government intervention, and live to tell about it.  Thus focus should be on the fact the people survived with out these huge so call disaster relief organizations that are not, and were not equipped to handle a natural disaster in America.  America this is our second warning, 911 was the first that we are ill equipped to handle the massive impact of mother nature.    People are dying; babies and our elderly are superfluous suffering in 2005 in one of the greatest countries in the world, America.  Shame on America.
