Opinion

It would certainly be nice if Canada were known for other things besides BC Bud,  Canada's Meth Mecca,  Nanny State, Crime Haven for Criminals, and now  Canada 's known for  "Ecstasy", and the "Agony" that goes with it.

All Politicians, it seems are complacent to let it continue, the voting public seem not to care.

The laws of the land state these are all banned substances, like handguns, yet there are no harsh penalities to go with the bans.

Believe it or not, I actually witnessed a Jaywalker and VPD's finest issuing a fine of $100.00.  I have seen fines laid against smokers on patios, Yet a panhandler gets bail and is released for beating a elderly parishioner half to death.  Something is seriously wrong, wrong, wrong, with Canadian Society.

Wake up Canada, the Criminals are taking over, and your next.

Again, as I stated in my previous story August 17th, 2007, on "Grow Op's may leave homes unfit for living" Jordan, the offer to be in my world for a few hours still stands.  Better to have two opinions instead of just mine, don't you agree?

Canada is becoming a major source for ecstasy, a national report on organized crime released yesterday says.

But drug investigators in the Ottawa region are more concerned about other narcotics being passed off as the mind-altering pills.

Det. Sgt. Paul Henry of the OPP's drug enforcement section in Ottawa said detectives continue to see speed pressed in pill form sold as ecstasy.

"It's certainly a more addictive substance and more harmful than ecstasy," Henry said, calling the trend "troubling" because users don't know what they're taking.

The annual crime report, produced by Criminal Intelligence Service Canada, says ecstasy production is concentrated mainly in Ontario and B.C., with most exports going to the U.S.

ILLEGAL FIREARMS

The drug trade is also fuelling illegal firearms.

The report says the illegal drug market drives gun demand because of adisagreements between criminal organizations. The major sources of illegal firearms are smuggling and domestic thefts, the report says.

Canada has 950 known organized crime groups, an increase of nearly 20% over the previous year, the report says. The report says about 80% of organized crime groups in Canada are involved in the illegal drug market, mostly in street-level trafficking.

All levels of police will soon be on extra alert for outdoor marijuana grow ops as harvest season nears. The report says most organized crime groups peddle marijuana more than any other substance.

Henry said local detectives have also seen some large cocaine seizures lately.

Barry Artiste, thanks for this.  I'm in Montreal this week and just overheard a couple arguing about where they were going to do crack and ecstasy. Bright and early in the morning. This was in a posh Montreal neighbourhood and it was so open and natural for them to be discussing this that I have to admit it was shocking.

Thanks Victoria, Shocking, Yes, will Judges adhere to the strict drug laws our Governments have in place? Not Likely.

On another note. "I'd KILL for some good Montreal Deli, Italian Pizza and Chinese Food, I just can't get around the West Coast "Wheat Crust Pizza" thing, or the Authentic Chinese Food here as I prefer East Coast Canadian Chinese food, as well as lack of good authentic Deli in BC, especially authentic Montreal Smoked Meat.   Please, please, tell me you have had some and leave out no details.  Sorry Victoria, but I am a desperate man, "sigh".  I have to go now to salvitate and bite my pillow, while crying myself to sleep. Enjoy Montreal, I certainly envy you.

Signed Barry Artiste, starved and now food depressed in Burnaby.

Thanks Moonwolf, Politicians and Corporate thieves may be more dangerous financially, but when it comes close to home, a Politician or President of a corporation has never broken down your door gun in hand to threaten and physically harm you and your loved ones, hence my statement "you could be next". We have adequate laws, unfortunately we have  inadequate Judges who pass them.

As for the 20's and dirty 30's , yes Prohibition cost lives, as well as the lives of innocent bystanders. Most do not know a lot of Corporations today were founded through illict activities from the 1920's throught to the 1950's, turned criminal Bootleggers into rich and powerful corporations today, as well as influential in politics and society.

I love your reference on "Taking Profitability out of the equation" , I see a wee bit more than the public and media do on the criminal side every day, as much as I would love to publish this in my columns, unfortunately I can't.  Hence why Now Public allows me to express my experiences on criminal activity issues I witness almost daily.

on, and it does not seem to I just feel crime is getting worse, with ineffective court ruling not getting better, especially here in the lower mainland.

 Thanks for the input MW.
