World Cup Triathlon came to Vancouver today taking many people by surprise as marketing difficulties kept the event all but secret until road closures came into effect early Sunday Morning. Simon Whitfield of Victoria waited until the last rise on the run to pull away from his competition and finish comfortably ahead of the break he had forged with two others. Visitors to Vancouver were treated to everything that the city has to offer, including all 4 seasons. The race was marked by every possible weather condition, light rain and windless but cold morning was pushed aside by gale force winds and ended in blustery sunshine by the end of the afternoon.

By the last lap of the run the field had narrowed to two: Whitfield and Andy Potts of the USA (fresh off his win in the escape from Alcatraz earlier this month). On the last rise, as the two entered Stanley Park for the last time, Whitfield made his move and created the separation he needed for a win on home soil. The finish line bleachers exploded into a roar as the local crowd saw Whitfield round the last corner alone, clearly ahead of Potts. Video of Finish Here.

This race is a tune-up for next year when the same course will play host to the Triathlon World Championships.

Great coverage!  I was somewhat bewildered waking up this morning to cheers, "Wait...the Sun Run already happened didn't it?"  Good stuff.

optic, you've convinced me you've done the work - it's authentic. (Except for the photos. Where did you get these?)

I also think that you've been fair and thorough. (Except for the fact that you seem to have a bias for Synaptics.)

I didn't get the sense that you were hiding your biases, or passing off other's work as your own (except for the photos and the bias as described above.)

I also think you deserve praise for being an eyewitness.

Unless of course, you weren't there.

But other than that, Good Stuff!
